Savor the perfect blend of savory and sweet with this Apple Cheddar Turkey Panini recipe. Juicy roasted turkey breast pairs beautifully with crisp Granny Smith apple slices, sharp cheddar cheese, and a tangy whole-grain mustard-honey spread, all pressed inside toasted ciabatta rolls. A quick and easy stovetop panini method delivers a wonderfully crispy, melty sandwich that’s perfect for lunch or a light dinner.

Ingredients

Sandwich

  • 2 lb sliced roasted turkey breast
  • 1 large Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 4 ciabatta rolls (or sturdy panini bread)
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • Handful of fresh arugula (optional)

Spread

  • 2 tbsp whole-grain mustard
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preparing the Bread & Spread: Slice each ciabatta roll horizontally, then lightly butter the outer faces to achieve a golden crisp when grilled. In a small bowl, whisk together the whole-grain mustard, honey, and apple cider vinegar until smooth. Spread this tangy mixture evenly on the inner sides of each bread half for a flavorful base.
  2. Seasoning & Assembling the Filling: Lay the sliced turkey breast on a plate, sprinkle with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and dried thyme, then toss gently to ensure every slice is well-seasoned. This enhances the turkey’s mild flavor. Layer the seasoned turkey evenly on the prepared bread halves, then top with thin slices of Granny Smith apple and sharp cheddar cheese. Add fresh arugula if desired for a peppery finish.
  3. Building the Panini: Preheat a panini press or a heavy skillet over medium heat. If using a skillet, place a 6-inch press or another heavy pan on top of the sandwich to apply even pressure. Grill each sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crisp and the cheddar cheese is fully melted inside.
  4. Resting & Serving: Remove the panini from the press and let it rest for about 2 minutes to allow the melted cheese to set slightly, helping keep the sandwich together when sliced. Cut each panini diagonally and serve warm immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Using ciabatta or a sturdy bread ensures the sandwich holds well under the press without becoming soggy.
  • Thinly slice the Granny Smith apple for a crisp texture that complements the savory turkey and cheese.
  • If you don’t have a panini press, a heavy skillet or cast-iron pan with another weighted pan on top works well as an alternative.
  • Fresh arugula is optional but adds a nice peppery note and some greens to the sandwich.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste before assembling the panini for the best flavor balance.
